Apologies for the long gaps in the blog and for being off the air because
I didn't have time to sort out some more bandwidth.
The three tractors Jeff finished are still here because every time I plan to deliver one it snows!
Bob, anyway has had more work done. Steve and I were not happy with Bob's clutch and neither was Jeff when he adjusted it then said- Something isn't right. I've been certain since last week that Bob would have to be split again so I just said Go ahead. Jeff and Steve seperated the engine from the clutch in a relatively short space of time and Jeff settled down to a period of observation which resulted in the clutch assembly being taken off. He observed that the clutch plate sat uneasily against the face of the fly wheel. The replacement clutch plate was slightly bigger than the originals and an indentation round the plate could be seen. A different plate seemed the only option and sure enough, with Bob re-assembled the clutch now disengaged and re-engaged perfectly. Jeff took Bob out into the sunshine and took him through his paces.
Last week saw a blue Ferguson join the other three here and this weekend Ken helped me fetch Percy from South Norfolk who is in for a service and an investigation into a front oil leak and a few other jobs.
I'm hoping Jeff will put his fun and games with Harald's governor blog onto this site. More later
Hello you lot ,guess WHO , governors, seems a lot of people do not know, what they do or how they work , I will explain soon but for now Haralds governor ,So on with it , I jacks up the front of Harald the tractor, uncoupled one side, disconnected the front, and swung it out the way, whipped off the pulley takes off the chain case , and looks inside the chain case ,
the end is missing off the bumper spring ,so then I opened up the bob weights to find the govener piston is really worn ,I made the picture bright so you can see the wear marks which are about 8-10 thou deep ,
I asked Bryony, is there a new govener piston in the stores ... Hrrr Yes .......... I takes the NEW GOVENER PISTON out of its wrappers , opens up the bob weights and pops it in the hole in the end of the cam ....................................wait for it .............................youve got it, it dont bloody fit , after a quick look over it , well ......... lets see, today CNC lathes will quite happily turn out part after part at + or - a thou or so , so how do you explain this......
need a close up
See what I mean ,not only was the shaft off center but the surface finsh is that shit and it shows through the plateing ,PLATED, It should be hardened steel, And the head is on the piss ,So I had to sort out the problems and make it work, which i did, now Ive just got to sort out the bumper spring and away we go , Life is never easy, But who cares its the way it is , ha ha ha .
I will say this ,This is a Sparex part , dont get me wrong Sparex are having a lot of parts made by other people in other countrys for Fergusons , a few parts have teething problems but they are getting there , and as far as I have had dealings with them, they have ALWAYS come good , And worth dealing with , If you have problems with there products, talk to them ,tell them ,they do listern , which is more than I can say for most .
